deviantARTjournal Beta 0.3 | `thespook

Website | Journal | Favs | Gallery | CSSOriginal concept: =frozenpandaman
Journal CSS coded by `thespook

Beta testers! Through your help I was able to polish the dAmn #journal skin and publish it today, go visit [link] to grab the updated HTML/CSS that you should all use instead of the version I provided you with earlier (that is if you still want to use it ;p )

This is a live demo of dAmn #journal, a journal skin made in collaboration between =frozenpandaman who came up with the initial idea to make a journal based on the look of dAmn, and myself, `thespook, who took that idea and fleshed it out into the journal you see in front of you after many days of work and the help of the following beta testers:

It was primarily built to emulate the look of dAmn, but you don't need to adhere to that format - you could use it as a pretty shell for your journal content, but then you'd only be making use of half of it!

To help you convert chatter from dAmn into the format required for dAmn #journal you can use either devart.koopseht.net/damnimport/ (javascript based, does not work in IE) or @sine-out's importer devart.sineout.com/damnjournal/ (php based, browser independent) - or you can type it out yourself, if you're a masochist like that.

There are three different note box types, so you can switch things around a bit, this one is 'light'

...and this one is called 'postit' - see if you can figure out why ;p

:iconthespook: Nemo enim ipsam voluptatem quia voluptas sit aspernatur aut odit aut fugit, sed quia consequuntur magni dolores eos qui ratione voluptatem sequi nesciunt.

Artists can be featured in several ways, using a special 'feature' div, by 'chatting' the thumb, or by putting them inside note boxes.

<frozenpandaman> :aww:

THUMBS!

As I mentioned before, you can use the import scripts to help you bring in chatter from dAmn. You can 'quote' chatter...

<wroth> brb, squats lunges etc

<thespook> wroth: yeah. bathroom break for me too.

...or you can have it right in your journal:

<znow-white> wroth: for you :flirty: h1 { font-size: 1.5em }

<Shyada> daddy did bad things while you were away :whisper:

<wroth> znow-white: :blushes::faint:

<znow-white> Shyada: I hope you took away his shampoo

* thespook wonders what allt he RP'ing is about

see this journal to get an idea of how things look when you stick to the chat only look

You might have noticed the tabs and sidebar by now too :)

The tab links are made using the dAmn shortcut codes, ie - :#resources: - but manually created links will be turned into tabs too.

In the sidebar you can create those user info popups, thumb popups, and a third type for displaying those wads of club avatars and stamps... which don't work in IE of course, because IE is stupid like that.

A mention isn't necessary man ;P I :heart: being a guinea pig

looking good though. ^^ Technically though couldn't you have just put the wraps journal div in the header and footer so that people wouldn't forget to put it in there? That way they would only have had to remember the note tag etc... ^^;

Maybe you just wanted to show off your CSS skills though ;)

You guys helped, you contributed to it, you became collaborators in a sense, so there's no way I'm not giving you all a mention.

Putting an unclosed tag at the end of the header and closing it at the start of the footer is something I've tried before - last time I checked though, it doesn't work.

I didn't look too far into it, but I'm assuming deviantart sees that there are unclosed tags when it gets to the end of the header and closes them for you. What happened in the past was that people would forget to close, say, a bold tag in a comment - and browsers would then go on to make the rest of the content on the page bold - comments, menus, everything :lol: So I guess what's going on here is that they apply this filter per field, rather than looking at the overall journal. As a quick test, see if you can make an entire journal bold by straddling bold tags around the body, you'll probably find it doesn't work...

and of course, another reason is indeed to show off my skills :giggle:

Shoulda figured you'd have checked it :XD: I knew dA had taken the precaution with the bold italic etc tags but i didn't know it extended to personal css tags. I learn something new everyday :w00t:

I guess that's why we leave the awesomeness to you and just piggy-back on the amazing that is ur talent ^^
