Brickworks: corner by thespook Brickworks: corner by thespook
~phunkdust and myself (`thespook incase you didn't notice) went and visited an old brickworks. It hasn't been used in a long time, and it was quite an experience walking through and seeing all the old machinery and discarded things. The cool thing was that although it must have been a long time ago when it was closed down the place still had that 'just gone' look about it - upturned chairs and tables and discarded documents... just older and with more dust and weather around them.

the site is a goldmine for stock photos and textures, but i had a bit of trouble taking it all in at once in such a short time so i'll probably head on over again and do a more thorough shoot.

Congratulations, you have been featured in my news article 'Texture in Photography' which can be found here ---> [link]
It is a selection of photographs that have that quality that makes you believe you could reach out and touch them.

Mmm, grungy!

A similar site in Brisbane, an abandoned powerhouse, is now a groovy arts centre.

notice how this photo isn't stock?
i'm getting this a lot recently - i think people have mistaken me for a stock-only deviant/account, which i'm not.
but even then, if you took the time to look at the deviation information you'd see that this photo is neither a stock photo or a resource.

kindly remove your deviation and be more carefull when downloading images in the future - make sure it's stock. if you're unsure, just ask first.

The broken stuff's always more interesting. Because nature takes over, as if to say 'this is my turf, yo' :D
Very desolate, that's for sure. But beautiful. Lots to look at, but not too busy. Very well done.

Ruins always inspire me. I like the treatment you given to this one, really interesting. That underline the idea that this place have a past but no present, with this "bleach" tones yo given. Great shot.

Very nice. Somehow there's something about old, forsaken, abandoned places that make for such interesting photographs. I think the composition of this is what I like most, especially the placement of the wall within the frame of the photo, its off-centered-ness seems to just pull everything else together so nicely.

Buildings such as these are excellent resources to photograph...I have a number of pictures as taken from an old malt factory, and some of a missle base...maybe I'll get to posting them one of these days...

Ahh, wonderful. I like the feel of old crumbling buildings -- they just seem to call for photo sessions. And I like this particular shot a lot. It's got exactly the right feel.

I like the way the light falls on that.
And you couldn't have possibly come up with photography material at brickworks better than a corner.
Maybe it's me, but it does inspire post-Industrial-Revolution "humanity is going nowhere with this" thoughts...
very good work.
thespook Featured By Owner Mar 28, 2004
thanx again.
it's quite interesting you should bring that up (post-industrial revolution).
since the brickworks closed down the area around it has been turned into a reserve/park...
and the brickworks old water source has been turned into a lake of sorts.

it's a far cry from the day when the earth was being raped, and the sky was filled with smoke.
as i left the factory and walked through the reserve i had the distinct feeling that i had just been dancing on someones grave who would not be missed. :)
